Spiranthes page

Three species of Spiranthes appear at Jerry Smith park. These orchids have very small seeds and we do not collect them, but wild orchids are a treat to see so we have included them here.

 

The above pictures are not to size. The S. vernalis is the tallest at about 18" tall.

The S. lacera was about 8" tall, and the S. cernua was about 10" tall.

Start looking for S. vernalis in med July, S. lacera in late August, and S. cernua in September.

In 2005 there were many plants, in 2006 there were not as many plants seen.
